Microsoft Office For Mac Rutgers
Microsoft Office for students Rutgers provides free access to various Microsoft Office products for all current students. Every student can install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Sharepoint, Office Online, OneNote, Publisher, and Access on up to five computers, five tablets, and five phones.
- Apple Silicon Mac owners will have to wait for the maximum speed, M1-supported Microsoft Office, but it is in progress. Apple’s newest 13-inch MacBook laptops and Mac mini desktop computers are powered by an Apple-designed M1 chip instead of the Intel chips that were used in previous generations.
- Rutgers Connect is the new central email, calendar, and cloud services system for faculty and staff, based on the Office 365 suite by Microsoft. Users from departments supported by New Brunswick IT Services can access Rutgers Connect by logging in using netid@echo.rutgers.edu and NetID password.
- All current students at the University have been assigned student licenses for Microsoft Office. These licenses allow students to install Microsoft Office on five computers, five tablets, and five phones. What is included in this service?
All current faculty and staff at the University have the ability to download Microsoft Office through their Rutgers Connect license. These licenses allow faculty and staff to install Microsoft Office on five computers, five tablets, and five phones. You may use this software on personal devices, however, please consult with your departmental IT support before installing it on Rutgers owned devices as your department may have its own policies.
What is included in this service?
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Skype, OneDrive, Publisher (PC only) and Access (PC only) are included in each installation of a faculty/staff license.
To access this service, faculty and staff must log into their Rutgers Connect account at https://connect.rutgers.edu.
After logging in, you will see the page below. To download Office 2016, click on the “Office 365” button, located on the upper left-hand side of the page:
To download Office 2016, click on the “Install software” button, located on the upper right-hand side of the page:
Clicking on the install button will cause a prompt to pop up that will provide directions on how to finishing downloading, installing and activating Office.

Please note that it is suggested to not have multiple versions of Microsoft Office running on your device. Please uninstall previous versions of Office before attempting to download the latest version.
